Jesus’ death and rising brought the hope of justice for all.
In Jesus, God became flesh. He died for you and me.
Sacrifice
Mission is something we have all been commanded to do. It’s not an option as a Christ follower. We cannot just give money so someone else can do it, we can not just pray for those in the fray. Each of our lives must be lived every day looking for opportunities to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus. Wherever we are, we’ve been commanded to be “salt and light” to this world near and far. To care for the “least of these” and Jesus has led the way for us through His life and His death. He loved unconditionally meeting physical and spiritual needs of those He came in contact with. Jesus said to “count the cost” of following Him. To live missionally, there is always a cost. We will sacrifice, give up, do without, and put to death anything of our preference to make Him known, and love in such a way that we are known as His.
Action
We will go, whether near or far. We will bring awareness to need. We will pray and give, but we will also be the “hands and feet” of Jesus. We will not wait for someone else to respond but seek the will of the Father concerning what He wants us to do. We will not hesitate but respond.
Justice
Where there is hunger, we will feed; where there is no water, we will dig; where there is disease, we will bring medication. We will not see caring for those in need as a secondary function of the gospel, but THE gospel. We will organize opportunities for others to serve and care for those in need. We will work inclusively with other organizations to see our world change for the better. We will bring awareness to what others are doing around the world and assist where we can.
Jesus
All that we are and all that we do is because of and for our Savior, Jesus Christ. We long to be obedient to His commandment to go. We long to be identified with Him in loving the unlovable. We will go to the ends of the earth so that His story of redemption and restoration be told. Through His example of sacrifice and death, we devote ourselves that He might live in and through us to this world. May our commitment to Him be seen in how we sacrifice, how we act, how we bring justice, how we love well. As we lift Him up to the nations, to the lowly, may He draw all men unto Himself.
Matt. 28:17-20 (MSG)
The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.
Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
Luke 9:23-27 (MSG)
Then he told them what they could expect for themselves: “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat—I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?
